The Panama City Swim Team and Frank Brown Park Aquatic Center are
proud to bring you "Summer Splashes", the new fun and exciting way
to learn to swim! Our program combines the safety skills of a
normal swim lesson with the fun thrills of being a part of a swim
team to make for one exciting way to learn to swim. Your child will
be taught by some of the best swimmers and coaches in the county
and state as they make friends, learn new skills and have a
terrific summer experience.
Summer Splashes Levels
-"Squirts" (be able to swim 5 yards
unassisted)
-"Ripples" Intermediate (be able to swim
basic freestyle and/or backstroke for 10-15 yards)
-"Splashes" Advanced (be able to
swim freestyle and backstroke for 25 yards)Beginner
Skills Learned in Each Group:
-"Squirts" Beginner
(1 hour, basic kicking and stroke technique for freestyle and
backstroke, possible introduction to breast and fly kicks)
-"Ripples" Intermediate (1 hour,
mastery of proper freestyle and backstroke basic techniques,
introduction and practice of breaststroke and butterfly swimming
techniques, introduction to wall dives)
-"Splashes" Advanced (1 hour,
mastery of all four competitive strokes, introduction to turns,
starts and clock reading)
Year-Round Novice
(1 hour, recommended 2-4 practices a
week)
Our most important goals in the novice group are to
have fun and improve technique. Swimmers must be able to
complete a 25 yard length of the pool using one of the 4
competitive strokes to be in this group. Coaches will often
get in the water with these swimmers to ensure proper
technique. Games and relays are also an important part of the
novice experience.
Age Group II
(1.5 hours, recommended 3-5 practices a
week)
Swimmers at the Age Group II level must show
proficient knowledge of all four strokes as well as initial
knowledge of clock/interval reading. While the focus is still
on fun, swimmers will be introduced to the more competitive side of
swimming as they learn to do more intricate sets in practice.
The level of intensity is mostly low to moderate with an occasional
difficult practice or set.
Age Group I
(1.5-2 hours, recommended 4-6 practices
a week)
In order to continue to improve once proper
technique is near mastered, swimmers must then begin to train
harder. Age Group I is designed to teach young swimmers to do
a full practice of training while still leaving time for work on
stroke mechanics and having fun. The level of intensity will
most often be moderate , ranging as high as very difficult on good
training days.
Pre-Senior
(2 hours, recommended 4-6 practices a
week)
Swimmers at the Pre-Senior level should be
prepared for a serious level of moderate to very high
training. Practices begin to become more challenging and are
for swimmers who have goals of one day participating in the Senior
Group. (Summertime Pre-Seniors will be strongly encouraged to
do doubles training 2-3 times a week).
Senior II Group
2 hours, recommended 5-9 practices a
week)
In order to train in the Senior II Group,
swimmers must show a very high level of dedication and
discipline. Practices are designed to train the most elite
level of athlete and are often very intense. Swimmers in this
group should have realistic goals of swimming at Sectionals, Junior
Nationals and beyond. (Summertime Seniors will be strongly
encouraged to do doubles training 3-4 times a
week).
Senior I Group
2.5 hours, recommended 8-9 practices a
week)
The Senior I Group is the highest level of
training. In this group, swimmers will train with unmatched
discipline, true dedication and the highest level of desire.
If you want to be in Senior I, you must complete a minimum number
of practices, be prepared to challenge yourself to new levels and
come with a great attitude on a daily basis. (Swimmers train
6 x 2.5 hour workouts a week, plus 3-4 one to two hour workouts
each week in addition to strength training).
