Panastics boys team finishes third

The Panastics’ Level Four boys gymnastics team placed third in the regional "Get a Grip" meet held in Montgomery, Ala., last November. The meet was the first for the team, and it was the only team representing Florida among squads from Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.

Individual awards also were earned in all categories, including floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, high bars and all-around.

Chipley girls

stay at No. 2

LAKELAND

Chipley remained at No. 2 in Class 2A in the Florida Sports Writers Association girls prep basketball poll, released on Wednesday. The Tigers (16-3) received one first-place vote and 119 points, 18 behind Miami Dade Christian.

In Class 1A, Bethlehem (12-3) fell from No. 5 to No. 8 after dropping two of its last three games. Also in 1A, Graceville, which had 18 points last week, fell out of the "also receiving votes" category.

Cottondale (12-4) received six votes in Class 2A. Also in 2A, Ponce de Leon didn’t receive any votes after amassing 5 points last week.

PCST competes

in invitational

During the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, swimmers from the Panama City Swim Team (PCST) participated in the Greater Pensacola Annual Winter Invitational held at Washington High School. Twenty-eight PCST swimmers ages 7-28 competed in the meet, featuring teams throughout the Southeast. Panama City finished sixth out of 10 teams.

Highlighting the team’s performance were high-point winners Carlee McDonald (age 12) and Michael Faulhaber (8). McDonald placed first in the 50 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and 200 freestyle. Faulhaber won the 25 butterfly, 25 freestyle and 50 freestyle.

Numerous team members achieved personal-best times during the meet including:

"I’m very happy with the team’s performance, with almost all of our swimmers achieving personal-best times," said head coach Nicole Garner, who also competed. "This meet was great preparation for the upcoming meet in Auburn the first weekend in February."
